Different by Nature

We strive for environmental, social and economic sustainability for our accommodation

Sustainable travel and tourism means not only trying to minimize the environmental impact but also the social and economic impact on the destinations you are visiting, but rather promoting the conservation of natural and cultural resources and the well-being of local communities.
We fully embrace this choice and want to promote a way of traveling focused on respect for the environment, nature and the people who live on Capraia Island.
At Mandola Eco Hostel, we have consciously made a different choice. We have decided to invest in renovating a former hospitality facility according to criteria of eco-sustainability, by focusing on efficient energy use, reducing waste and reducing the use of plastics.

But our focus on sustainability does not stop there.

We work actively with the local community to offer our guests an authentic and unique experience. We constantly strive to find new ways to reduce the environmental impact of our accommodation and take care of the island's natural resources. We are proud to cooperate with Capraia's institutions and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park to promote this beautiful island.
In order to make a stay on Capraia Island affordable for every type of traveler, we have decided to offer a price that can be customized, based on the needs of the guest. Therefore, we offer a wide range of solutions and prices, starting from the most basic stay in a shared dormitory to a stay in private rooms with the amenities of a stay in a hotel.

These are some of the solutions we have implemented to promote the sustainability of La Mandola Eco Hostel:

  • We are plastic free: we minimize plastic use and avoid single-use items;
  • We have eliminated plastic water bottles. In our bar, we offer purified and microfiltered natural and sparkling water in pitchers. You can also refill your flasks;
  • we replaced traditional complimentary toiletries with wall-mounted soap and shower gel dispensers to provide higher quality and reduce waste;
  • we use only environmentally friendly products to clean the rooms and for personal care;
  • along with our guests, we put into practice the "4Rs" rule: reduce, reuse, recycle and recover;
  • all faucets in the rooms are equipped with aerators;
  • all rooms are equipped with a device that automatically turns off the lights when they are unoccupied;
  • we are gradually equipping all light fixtures with energy-efficient LED bulbs;
  • we invest in training our staff and informing our guests by providing tips and advice on how to save energy and water, and how to sort waste better;
  • we use spring water from our well for irrigation;
